Xavier Elzie M.A.| Former Master’s Student

Xavier is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in clinical/school psychology at the University of Virginia. At HCFD, his research focused on fathering roles and the associations between paternal stress, discipline, and children’s behavior problems.


Jacky Duong M.A. | Former Master’s Student

Jacky is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in clinical psychology at University of Texas, Austin. At HCFD, her research focused on pathways from maternal childhood abuse to child emotional and behavioral problems. 


Jackie Garcia M.A. | Former Master’s Student

Jackie is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in clinical psychology at the SDSU/UCSD Joint Doctoral Program. At HCFD, her research focused on examining racial/ethnic differences in the link between parent-adolescent relationship quality and delinquency. 


Meghan Evans M.S. | Former Lab Manager

Meghan is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in clinical psychology at UC Santa Barbara. At HCFD, her research focused on adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and trauma and how these experiences interact with issues such as housing instability and substance abuse.


Damian Elson M.A. | Former Master’s Student

Damian is currently a clinical research data specialist at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. At HCFD, his research focused on examining the environmental, intrapersonal, and interpersonal factors related to the etiology and development of internalizing disorders during adolescence.


Byron Garcia M.S. | Former Research Assistant

Byron is currently a doctoral student in Clinical Psychology at Arizona State University.  At HCFD, his research focused on risk and protective factors
for substance use between children with ADHD diagnoses and those without. 


Lucybel Mendez Ph.D | Former Research Assistant

Lucybel graduated with her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Utah and completed her predoctoral Internship at the University of Illinois Chicago. At HCFD, her research focused on examining the pathways to drug delinquency among Adolescents at high-risk for victimization by violence. She is currently an Assistant Professor in Clinical Psychology at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Alejandro Vazquez Ph.D | Former Research Assistant

Alejandro graduated with his Ph.D. in Clinical and Counseling Psychology program from Utah State University and completed his predoctoral internship at the Medical University of South Carolina – Charleston Consortium in the Child Track. At HCFD, his research focused on racial/ethnic differences in caregivers perceptions of need for and utilization of mental health services for their adolescents. He is currently an Assistant Professor in Counseling Psychology at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

Loreen Magariño M.S.| Former Doctoral Student

Lorren is currently a doctoral student in the Clinical Science in Child and Adolescent Psychology program at Florida International University.  At HCFD, her research focused on ecological factors (e.g., culture and family dynamics) and its link to behavioral problems and mental health issues in children and adolescents.

Aline Milfort Ph.D. | Former Research Assistant

Aline is currently a postdoctoral associate at Connections Child & Family Center in Houston, Texas. She is also the Co-founder and Director of Marketing for the Black School Psychologists Network, Inc. She recently graduate from the doctoral program in School Psychology at Nova Southeastern University. At HCFD, her research focused on examining the feasibility of implementing Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) with families who had been investigated for child abuse by the Child Welfare System.

Jacqueline (Jackie) Moses Ph.D. | Former Doctoral Student

Jackie is currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Institute for Juvenile Research and the Center for Clinical and Translational Science at the University of Illinois Chicago.  At HCFD, her research explored cultural and community factors that help engage families of color in urban after-school programs. 

Kelly Cromer Ph.D. | Former Doctoral Student

Kelly is currently a Clinical Psychologist with The Cromer Wellness Collaborative. At HCFD, her research examined the implementation of a brief meditation and sleep health journaling activities for black and Latinx teens. 


Annie Morrow Ph.D. | Former Doctoral Student

Annie is currently a Clinical Psychologist at South Florida Integrative Medicine. At HCFD, her research examined the feasibility and acceptability of behavioral consultation with Latinx teachers and students.
