The Healthy Child and Family Development Lab conducts clinical research on the promotion of mental health and psychosocial well-being among Black and Latinx communities. Our projects generally fall into two areas. We study the impact of adversities (e.g., poverty, discrimination, abuse, neglect, violence) on academic, emotional, and behavioral development among at-risk youth, and Black and Latinx youth in particular. We also conduct community-based research to adapt and enhance clinical interventions that promote academic, emotional, and behavioral well-being for use in community and school-based settings that are more accessible to Black and Latinx communities.
